CURATORIAL STATEMENT

"Thanh Xuân", lit. blue blossom, is the symbol of youth in Vietnamese culture - the home country of student-artist Eddie Phan. This photography exhibition deals with her personal experience of youth, and particularly of her transition into the so-called adulthood.

The exhibited work of Phan addresses many issues that are commonly associated with this period, such as the inquiry of self-exploration, the search for and pursuit of dreams and passions, or the formation of family and social relationships...; at the same time, permeating through Phan's photographs is a sense of longing and solitary reflection, as the artist has spent a great part of her life away from her home country.

In Thanh Xuân, Phan attempts to express her idea of youth from an intimate, personal and yet open perspective. The "blue blossom" in the artist's reading refers not only to the blue of emotions and that of reflections, but also to those of youthful energy and ambitions.
